Safer Urban Driving – Protecting Vulnerable Road Users

For all professional LGV and PCV drivers.

Cycling experienceWe deliver Safer Urban Driving courses for drivers of HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicles) now LGV (Large Goods Vehicles) and PCV (Passenger carrying vehicles).

Across London we deliver the course in partnership with the London Borough of Redbridge Transport Training Services Division while across the rest of the country we work with our parent Company TTC Group. Both courses are JAUPT and FORS accredited.

The course focuses on driving in busy urban environments and how to protect the safety of vulnerable road users, including pedestrians, cyclists & motorcyclists. The course consists of two 3.5 hour sessions, one classroom based and one practically based where drivers are given the opportunity to get on bikes and gain a vulnerable road users perspective of being in urban traffic.

This course will count towards the 35 hours of training required for Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC) which professional drivers of passenger carrying vehicles currently require and large good vehicle drivers must complete by Sept 2014.

The two modules are taught on the same day with up to twelve drivers participating. We are currently running courses on behalf of a number of London Boroughs and commercial fleet operators.

We also run cycle awareness training programmes on behalf of commercial and public sector organisations for their employees who currently cycle or want to cycle to work.

These courses are similar to those run as part of CPC driver training with both practical on-road cycling and a classroom based theory session. Current clients include the National Grid and Warwickshire Fire Brigade.
